Description

Casisano Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Colombaiolo is setting the standard of excellence for this lesser known area of Montalcino in the Southeastern quadrant of the appellation near Sant’Antimo. We know the anatomy and soul of every old Sangiovese grosso vine in the Colombaiolo vineyard, from the exacting winter pruning through to the hand selection and destemming at harvest to produce our only Brunello Riserva. At among the highest altitudes in Montalcino, the wine will surprise for the finesse that accompanies a richly rewarding bouquet. The 2010 vintage has almost reached adulthood. With proper cellaring, we suggest enjoying between 2021 and 2028.

Information

Tasting Note

A deep, intense ruby with tinges of garnet, it offers a fine, complex nose, in which the fruit combines with a sweet spiciness deriving from its long aging. On the palate it is austere, with ripe, velvety tannins producing an excellent balance between great structure and elegance. The finish is fresh and harmonious.

Serving Suggestions

Its full-bodied yet elegant style (resulting from its long maturation) make it ideal for accompanying rich dishes such as red meats, braised meats and game, particularly when served with mushrooms or truffles. Excellent with very mature cheeses.

From specially selected grapes from the finest plot of the Colombaiolo vineyard, one of the highest in the Denomination. The Cordon Spur- trained vines have a density of 5,000 plants per hectare, on soil that is rich in galestro (schistous clay) with insertions of sandstone.

Vineyard

Casisano Vineyard
The microclimate is ventilated and dry with excellent thermal excursions. This helps to create the ideal conditions to preserve the health of the grapes. The care of the vineyards and the pursuit of raw material excellence is manic. The vineyard is at the center of agricultural management and interventions; we care that each vine is in optimal health, exploiting the self-defense mechanisms of plants and promoting the growth of natural essences along the rows and makes no invasive practice. The soil is periodically moved to aerate and oxygenate the subsurface.
